Joe Bonamassa - The Ballad of John Henry
Hey guys Rohit here writing in from Sunny Singapore . Joe Bonamassa's impact on the blues- rock world is defined by the early 2009 album "The Ballad of John Henry". A career defining album, TBJH has stomping rock riffs coated with bluesy tones, a Zeppelinesque rhythm, a full orchestral ensemble and consistent vocals.
Songs that caught me attention on this album were:
#1 The ballad of John Henry
#3 Last Kiss
#5 Story of a Quarryman
#9 Funkier than a Mosquito's Tweeter
Other than these, Bonnamassa's cover of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse's 1964 classic "Feelin' Good" is definitely worth checking out as well as is Track #4 "Jockey full of Bourbon".
This album keeps a blues rock fan like me happy thanks to its inventive riffs and ripping solos. The album reflects on Bonnamassa's songwriting skills as 7 of the 12 tracks are originals.

1.0 - sorry rohit. this one just did nothing for me, even after a few tries in different venues (at home, at work, in the car). it was too up + rocky-blues for me (i can usually appreciate one or the other, but not the combination), which distracted me from paying attention to the musical compilation or lyrics. =(
ReplyDeleteI liked this one. Other artists I thought of while listening include Mark Knopfler, Ben Harper, and Donavon Frankenreiter. Favourite track was Feelin' Good, but I'm a sucker for that song and for covers.
