dropping in a last minute backup post to make sure we have an album up this week. you've crossed the musooklub for the last time Zena! that last bit was sarcasm, but it felt fun to put such melodrama against my pal, and our recently joined (and flaking) member Zena, who is a super-heroine, but not a warrior princess.
i've always liked folks named Ryan. and i know more than a few.
in college my then-girlfriend gave me a copy of Ryan Adams' Gold. it was a weird mix of country, classic rock, and pop. it grew on me. that album always reminds me of her.
Ryan Adams recently decided to cover his pal Taylor Swift's recent 1989 (i've still never heard anything from it), creating an album of the same name.
i was intrigued.
in October, i saw him perform a few tracks on Trevor's new Daily Show. i read a few articles (or two). like an email from an old girlfriend (incidentally, he recorded this after a breakup), i was further intrigued.
i recently got a copy from the library, and listened to it on the drive to and from Thanksgiving this past weekend. so it's fresh on my mind.

This is decent. I hate Taylor Swift, but I'm finding that this is a pretty good album so far. I'm going to keep listening.
ReplyDeletei love both versions - the original and this cover. i heard about it on some gawker blog, i think. taylor now has major street cred even with fellow musicians as she's become a legitimate artist. and it was really cool to hear a different take on it.
